The SPEICHER is an eco-sociocultural center in Stralsund's old town.
The SPEICHER am Katharinenberg in Stralsund is a place for EVERYONE. Inclusion means that everyone belongs here naturally. Appearance, social background, language, disabilities, age and gender are irrelevant. In the playing card factory, for example, it is clear to see how apprentices, entry-level trainees, people doing community service and workshop employees work and learn together. The building is also home to two federal volunteers. This diversity is not apparent to visitors to the museum workshop and the house. That is inclusion. The SPEICHER is an important, open and low-threshold cultural venue in the city through networking with other users in the building, the old town and the outlying districts of Grünhufe and Knieper West. The brick building of an old steam mill houses a museum workshop on the ground floor with the heavy machines of the playing card factory, where the cultural heritage of letterpress printing is actively practiced. The typesetting cabinets with the lead type, the Linotype typesetting machine and the Heidelberg cylinder printing machine are worked on daily. The playing card factory thus serves as a career orientation center for students who are just starting out in their careers and as a training center for our two future media designers, who are being trained in cooperation with two Stralsund companies. It is also a workplace for our youth social work workshop. The building, which is funded by the city, can be recognized by its printing and social culture profile.
