The Müritz Bear Sanctuary supports bears living in captivity, rescues them and gives them a new home on the southern shore of Lake Plau on 16 hectares of open-air enclosure - so that they don't have to perform tricks and live in cramped conditions for 30 years.

Circus bears dancing and clapping may be very entertaining - but the fact that they are tortured for these tricks and kept in small cages covered in excrement is not obvious to circus or theme park visitors.

In the Müritz Bear Sanctuary you can slip into the role of a circus bear for 3 minutes - after that you will certainly understand these animals better. The Müritz Bear Sanctuary is committed to helping bears living in captivity, rescuing them and giving them a new home on 16 hectares of open-air enclosure on the southern shore of Lake Plau - so that they don't have to perform tricks and live in cramped conditions for 30 years. Visitors are welcome all year round to observe the brown bears in their natural environment and discover exciting information and play stations to show how well the individual bears are developing after their relocation to the bear sanctuary. If that's not enough information for you, you can take part in a guided tour of the bear sanctuary.
