The quality hiking trail certified by Wanderbare Deutschland is probably the most beautiful and varied hiking route in the Feldberg Lakeland. Named after the badger from a children's book by Hans Fallada, this hike takes you along enchanted paths over the ups and downs of the terminal moraine. The official start and finish point is Carwitz. Due to better public transport connections, we start at the Luzin ferry on the Feldberg shore of the narrow Luzin.
From the parking lot, you descend over 100 steps to the ferryman. From there, a 4 km long hiking trail leads you along the banks of the Schmal Luzin to Carwitz.
Hans Fallada (alias Rudolf Ditzen) was also fascinated by the village of Carwitz around 80 years ago. He bought a small farm and spent ten of his most beautiful and creative years here with his family. His house is now home to the Hans Fallada Museum. Concerts and readings are held in the former barn during the summer months.
Shortly after the idyllic village of Carwitz, you pass the Hauptmannsberg. A Bronze Age burial mound here indicates early human settlement. The landscape now presents itself with blackthorn hedges and rough grass meadows. You may also come across the flock of sheep from the Hullerbusch sheep farm, which looks after the landscape in this area. Follow the path through the beech forest. From here, rocky outcrops, moors and boulders line the path and lead you to a ridge above the second lake on this tour, the Zansens.
Now you reach the descent from the Hullerbusch nature reserve, where the ferryman will ferry you across the narrow Luzin. Please note the ferry's opening times.
Once you arrive at the ferry, take the steps to the Luzin ferry parking lot.
