Interesting facts about the history and botany, cultivation and utilization of the potato. We have the thickest tubers!

The potato museum, located directly on the church square, is the only one in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. In the exhibition, you can explore the question of how the potato found its way from South America to Europe and what makes it so valuable for our diet. Also on display are historical tools, an old farmer's kitchen, photographs and, of course, potatoes.

Hardly any other fruit has shaped the menu of the Germans throughout history as much as the potato. The brown tuber began its career as a field and arable crop in Germany as early as 1647. Until a few years ago, it was considered a traditional and high-calorie food. Today, it is known that it is a true nutrient bundle: with many vitamins and few calories. Currently, every German citizen consumes around 41 kg of potatoes a year. A third of this, the equivalent of 174 tubers, is consumed in the first few months from January to April alone. In cooperation with many experts from the region of the Trebel Valley and beyond, a lot of material was collected, sifted and processed. In addition to pictures, documents and technical literature, old technology is presented and shown.

The repertoire also includes the screening of historical films. Allotment gardeners and other interested parties can get advice on problems of potato cultivation and pest control.
