The former border tower BT11 stands directly on the beach promenade and has an integrated museum.
Along the Baltic Sea coast of the former GDR stood 27 border towers of the type BT11. The border tower in Kühlungsborn was restored by the Ostseegrenzturm e.V. association and opened to visitors as a museum. Interested visitors can learn everything about the border system and the fates of escapees. Next door is a museum pavilion, which contains an exhibition and where original escape boats can be seen.
