Baltic Sea Discovery Tours Along the Former Coastal Border Zone: Discover and Explore the Coast and the Sea
The wooden building, which the municipality of Kalkhorst had constructed on the site of the old fishermen’s hut at beach access point No. 5, serves as a center for environmental education and nature conservation. The station is located in the middle of the former coastal border zone. For decades, a natural beach—now a rare sight on the German Baltic Sea coast—was preserved behind large barrier fences along the coast between Priwall and Steinbeck. Because of these unique natural features, it became part of the large European network of protected areas, Natura 2000. The nature station regularly hosts beach tours, marine excursions, and exciting discovery tours.
The Fischerkaten Nature Station is located at Beach Access No. 5 in Groß Schwansee and is easily accessible by various modes of transportation.
By bike: seamlessly connected to the Baltic Sea Long-Distance Bike Trail, allowing cyclists to reach it directly along the coastal route.
By car: to the “Am Strandweg” beach parking lot. From there, a footpath leads directly to the nature station. Simply follow the signs for “Naturstation Fischerkaten.”
