The Müritz National Park is the largest contiguous protected area in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and part of the Mecklenburg Lake District. It consists of two separate parts - one around the Müritz, Germany's largest lake, and one to the east near Serrahn. The landscape is characterized by forests, moors, lakes and vast meadows. Many endangered animal and plant species find a protected habitat here - including cranes, ospreys, white-tailed eagles, red deer and even rare insects and amphibians.

 What can you do there?

Hiking & cycling: More than 600 km of marked hiking and cycling trails lead through unspoiled nature.

Birdwatching: Watching cranes in the fall as well as ospreys and sea eagles is particularly popular.

Boat and canoe tours: environmentally friendly water activities are permitted on many of the lakes.

Nature trails & guided tours: Exciting guided tours, ranger tours and information centers offer deep insights into flora and fauna.

Photography & relaxation: Perfect backdrop for nature photography and quiet moments away from everyday life.

 Worth seeing:

Müritz itself: The largest lake within Germany (only Lake Constance is larger, but it crosses borders).

Rederangsee and Specker Horst: hotspots for birdwatching.

Serrahn beech forests: UNESCO World Heritage Site and an impressive example of primeval forest-like woodland.

Federow, Schwarzenhof and Boek National Park Information Centers: interactive exhibitions, starting point for tours.
