Thuringian glass art on the shore of Müritz

A visit to the glass workshop at the city harbor of Waren (Müritz) is worthwhile. The idea of the "Thüringer Kristallhof", from Stadtroda / OT Gernewitz to provide an insight into the art of glass blowing, cutting and engraving in the context of a sales exhibition, was successfully realized. Watching the artists at work, as they create the artistic glass articles, or personally trying out glass blowing and engraving, are sought-after experiences. The offer is extensive, ranging from utility glass to high-quality lead crystal. The best-selling souvenir and souvenir is the Müritz devil created by the art glassblower Reinhardt Steger from Neuhaus / Rwg., which can effortlessly perform funny dances. This "Cartesian dancing devil" was already discovered around 1640 by Renatus Carterius. In the period before Christmas and Easter, the sales exhibition is particularly busy. Then the guests from near and far are interested in the offered Christmas tree baubles and the filigree spring decorations. The establishment of the glass workshop is also linked to the idea of recalling the glass tradition of the 18th and 19th centuries in the Müritz region. It is known today that 21 glassworks existed around the Müritz, which among other things made the charming ruby glass famous. Place names such as glassworks near Malchow point to the past.
