Landscape conservation farm Müritzhof
The Müritzhof is located in the middle of the Müritz National Park. It is not accessible by car. The last parking facilities are located in Waren (Müritz) in Specker Straße, in the parking lot at Dammfeld and at the National Park Information Center in Federow. From Waren (Müritz), you can reach Müritzhof on foot or by bike after seven kilometers along Specker Straße past Warnker See. A second path, starting in Specker Straße, leads past the national park parking lot, along Teufelsbruch, Moorsee and Warnker See to Müritzhof. This trail is around nine kilometers long and is one of the most beautiful routes in the Müritz National Park.
The farm, which is more than a hundred years old, is surrounded by a varied pasture landscape with a fascinating wealth of nature. Meadows, juniper heaths, lakes with their reed beds and forests are home to many rare animal and plant species. Wood lizards, adders and lesser spotted woodpeckers are still indigenous to the nearby swamp forests. Marsh gentian, lesser orchid and cotton grass grow in the areas around the Müritzhof. A total of nine orchid species can be found. House martins and barn swallows and bats, such as the greater mouse-eared bat and the lesser horseshoe bat, nest in the farm buildings.
A visit to Müritzhof is a natural delight at any time of year. In spring, it is the vocal diversity of songbirds in the mixed beech forests and the arrival of migratory birds. Ospreys, cranes and snipes return. Summer surprises with rich flora on meadows, moors and lakeshores. Frog concerts now set the tone. In the fall, the large migration of cranes and geese is impressive. When it gets cold, the muffled bellowing of the deer can be heard from afar. Hoarfrost-covered pine trees, the mighty crack of the ice on the frozen Müritz and the song of the whooper swans leave a lasting impression in the quiet of winter.
