The new observation deck is a popular destination for visitors and Krakow residents alike. On July 1, 2016, at 2:00 p.m., the official dedication of the covered observation deck “Dr.-Neubauer-Blick” took place on the bike path between Möllen and Bossow on Krakow’s Obersee. Numerous guests attended the ceremony. Joachim Loose, chairman of the Güstrow chapter of NABU and a longtime colleague of Dr. Neubauer, spoke about Dr. Neubauer’s extensive contributions. Edith Neubauer expressed her gratitude for the dedication of the observation hut in honor of her husband. Dr. Sebastian Lorenz, Dr. Neubauer’s successor as caretaker of Krakower Obersee, explained the islands and breeding colonies of Krakower Obersee to the guests, and Frank Eilrich, the main initiator of the observation point’s construction, gave a brief overview of the history of the lookout’s construction. The naming of the observatory serves as a fitting and lasting tribute to Dr. Neubauer. For over 50 years, he was dedicated to the conservation of Lake Krakow, literally becoming the “guardian” of common terns, black-headed gulls, and gray geese. Mayor Wolfgang Geistert thanked all the volunteers and supporters for their dedication to the construction of the observation deck.
