You will find the town library directly in the town center at the Neuer Markt in the Haus des Gastes "Werleburg". A public library, or as it used to be called, Bücherei, has existed in Malchow since 1902. We look back on a 100-year tradition.

In 1997, the municipal library was spun off from the municipal administration. The Malchow library association "Leseratten" e. V. has been the library's supporting association since 1998.

Approximately 15,000 media can be borrowed from our library. Current thrillers, exciting stories and family sagas, guidebooks, youth books, picture books and read-aloud stories for children are available to everyone.

The book offer is extended by audio books and audio plays on CD for adults and children, CDs with music, feature films on DVD, magazines, an access to the Internet.

As the first library in the Müritz region, the municipal library offers the lending of e-books and other e-media as an additional, supplementary service. This is made possible by the connection to the ONLEIHE Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

Every 1st Friday of the month, children of pre-school and primary school age are invited to "read aloud and tell stories", to stories and word games with our volunteer reading mentors.

Regularly there is the "Malchower Buchtreff" in the library. In this friendly discussion group, you can find out which books/media are new in the library and exchange ideas about what you have read.

Outside of opening hours, there are a variety of library educational events to promote reading for children of all ages. Students have the opportunity to do research for their papers or put together their book box. Close cooperation links us with day care centers and schools.

Other traditional events are: "book flea market" - the staircase book bazaar, the summer holiday event FerienLeseLust for students in 4th to 6th grades, "story writers, story readers, story listeners ...", since 2019 "Malchow reads" on the occasion of the nationwide reading aloud day in November, events to promote reading for the kindergartens of the city and the Fleesensee school, readings with prominent authors and up-and-coming authors.
