The historical town hall with the city history museum
The current town hall building on the New Market Square was built in 1797 and rebuilt in the middle of the 19th century. Today it appears as a three-storey building in the style of Tudor Gothic.
After the reconstruction in 1988, the town hall was provided with colored plaster and chinkel lamps. Under its arcades, the building houses the old council scales with meter-long weighing beams, the suspension of which still reaches a bit out into the open. On the south side of the New Town Hall you can still see a bullet hole from the time of the Kapp Putsch of 1920. Today, the town hall building houses the registry office of the town of Waren (Müritz).
On the upper floors, the town history museum presents a permanent exhibition on the history of Waren and the way of life of its inhabitants. Special thematic exhibitions are also shown.
