Churches, Brick Gothic

The church in Samtens is a church building dating from the 15th century .

The brick-roofed church in its original state is one of the buildings of the brick Gothic. Particularly worth seeing are the baptismal angel from around 1700, the very delicately designed triumphal crucifix on the altar and the wall painting with Christophorus and the epitaphs. The church was first mentioned in writing in 1318. The brick building itself, was built in the 15th century. 200 years later it was changed and renovated in baroque style. It consists of a choir, nave, sacristy and a western porch. On the nave sits a small tower with clockwork and clock face. In 1935-36, restorations restored the Baroque paintings in the choir and nave. The impressive triumphal cross (15th century) by an unknown master was moved from the rood screen to the altar during the same period. Epitaphs of the von der Osten family from the 17th century depict, among other things, the Passion of Christ. The baptismal angel was probably made around 1700 by Martin Becker from Stralsund. The late Gothic wall paintings above a painting of St. Christopher are unusual.
