Dambeck church ruins

The Dambeck church ruins (near Röbel/Müritz) were built around 1180 as an early Christian fortified church made entirely of granite stones. It is the oldest in southern Mecklenburg.

The Dambeck Church Ruins Association has been in existence since 2014 and has organized a total of €364,000 over the last 10 years. These funds come from the EU (LEADER), the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the Federal Republic of Germany, the North Church, the German Foundation for Monument Protection and others.

Thanks to the many donations (Müritzsparkasse, N. Backhaus Schloss Leizen, Agrar-GmbH Minzow, etc.), the association was able to contribute €27,500.

This enabled the church ruins to be renovated, secured and restored to a worthy condition in three construction phases. Visitors can now safely enter the area and view this unique building.

On 23.06.2024 at 17:00 , the completion of the construction work will be celebrated with an open-air festival concert in the ruins of the nave followed by a snack. This was once again made possible thanks to the support of the MV Volunteer Foundation.

The re-roofed choir room is always opened during the events and visitors are given a short guided tour. The traditional annual Pentecost Sunday service of the Massow parish takes place there. Two baptism services have also been celebrated there.
