Historical Buildings, Churches

The Margarethenkirche in Glewitz, located between Grimmen and Demmin, dates from the 13th century. A special feature is a Gothic painter's frieze.

The choir of St. Margaret's Church was built at the end of the 13th century, the nave in the middle of the 14th century. The tower was added in the 15th century. In 1995, a Gothic painter's frieze (around 1370) was discovered, which runs through the entire interior of the church. The manner of its execution and the good state of preservation make the church an important architectural monument in northern Germany. Also worth seeing are a representation of the Margaret legend, the Passion cycle and the legend of St. Erasmus, tombstones from the 17th/18th centuries, and gravestones of the von Hagenow family. Possibilities for visiting the church can be obtained by calling the parish office.
