The western part of Mecklenburg invites cyclists on a 380-kilometer journey back in time. Already in Schwerin the cathedral announces this impressive architecture of the Middle Ages. At 117.5 meters, the red giant is one of the highest churches in Germany. Northwest of the royal seat begins an enchanting stretch of land. Crystal-clear lakes, lush meadows and fields characterize this section of the route. Through dreamy villages with stately country and city parish churches, the route heads toward the sea.

The route along the beaches and cliffs of the Mecklenburg Bay and in the dreamy hilly landscape of the Klützer Winkel is charming and beautiful. The castles of Kalkhorst and Bothmer enchant with their brick splendor and garden art before the huge cathedrals of the Hanseatic City of Wismar come into view. UNESCO declared this historic gem a World Heritage Site in 2002.

The tour leads along the Wismar Bay and the Salt Lagoon to the Baltic resort of Kühlungsborn. The Bastorf lighthouse peeks out from between bright rapeseed fields. The sea is very close and invites you to swim. The narrow-gauge railroad "Molli" accompanies the cyclists part of the way. The "White City by the Sea" - Heiligendamm - shines in princely splendor along the way. In the shade of ancient beeches, cyclists reach Warnemünde on steep banks. Up the Warnow River, three monumental brick churches tower over the Hanseatic city of Rostock.

Inland, the route leads through landscapes shaped by the Ice Age with small villages, past Doberan Cathedral, the crowning glory of North German brick Gothic. On the home stretch, magnificent deciduous forests reach as far as the western shore of Lake Schwerin.
