Abundance of fish on the Baltic Sea coast

The fishing grounds of the Baltic Sea are home to huge salmon and sea trout. Experienced fishing guides will bring you closer to your personal catch on guided fishing tours. Meanwhile, fishing enthusiasts can chase gigantic schools of herring and thousands upon thousands of garfish from the sea stacks, piers and beaches.

Fishing in rivers and lakes

The extensive network of inland waters also promises fishing pleasure at the highest level. More than 37 species of fish live in the crystal-clear lakes and natural rivers, including large pike measuring over 1.20 meters in length. But real rarities, such as the legendary marlin, are also at home here. The chance of catching rich prey from the water is even higher. Whether it's a small motorboat or a fully equipped houseboat for the whole family - suitable vessels can be hired in many places without a license.

A paradise for young anglers too

No matter where you spend your fishing vacation in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Everywhere you go, you will find unspoiled nature, angler-friendly accommodation, boat hire, experienced guides and boat trip providers. And best of all: with a tourist fishing license, even absolute beginners can go fishing between the Baltic Sea and the Lake District.

Top fishing areas

The Mecklenburg Baltic Sea coast delights surf anglers with seemingly endless sandy beaches, rugged cliffs and top spots for sea trout, flounder and even turbot. In the Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft and around Rügen, anglers can immerse themselves in a rustic world of extremely rare cold-water lagoons. The mixture of salt and fresh water promises a colorful mix of species and allows some to grow into true giants. Pike of crocodile caliber can be found here.

Countless opportunities await anglers between Lake Malchin and the island of Usedom: with the Peene and Trebel rivers, large lakes and Usedom's outer coast, there is a choice here like in hardly any other area in Germany. The Mecklenburg Lake District also attracts visitors with real superlatives. Some lakes are almost sea-sized and pike, carp and tench can grow to impressive sizes here. Large roach can also be caught in West Mecklenburg. Schwerin is considered a stronghold for pike.

Get ready for a fishing and adventure-packed journey of discovery in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
