In his lecture, Dr. Michael Schirren will talk about archaeological and historical-cartographic findings on military landing operations on Rügen.
In his lecture "D-Day on the Strelasund: Palmer Ort and Groß Stresow. New archaeological and historical-cartographic findings on military landing operations on the coast of southern Rügen in autumn 1715", archaeologist Dr. Michael Schirren (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern State Office for Culture and Monument Preservation) reconstructs the landing operations of the allied Prussians, Danes and Saxons on the coasts of Rügen on the basis of terrain monuments, maps and contemporary reports during the Great Northern War. Special attention is paid to the strategic importance of Palmer Ort and Gelbe Ufer in the context of allied attacks.
