Opening of the new special exhibition
Born in Greifswald, Horst Hussel was a painter, draughtsman, graphic artist, illustrator, writer and publisher.
As an illustrator, he has provided and embellished well over 100 books with his whimsical, enigmatic pictures and vignettes. In his own publishing house, Dronte-Presse, founded in 1994, he was publisher, editor, graphic artist, designer and sales manager all in one. His books and portfolios are often characterized by a limited edition, the addition of an original graphic and often printed on handmade paper. This makes the heart of every collector and bibliophile beat faster.
Parallel to his book art, Hussel created numerous paintings, drawings and, above all, graphic works. In addition to drypoint etching as his preferred technique, we find collages, hand-coloring, overprinting techniques and prints on historical papers. The wealth of working techniques used and the themes depicted testify to a creativity and artistic development that remained unbroken until his late creative phase.
The exhibition provides an exemplary insight into Hussel's graphic work and his love of fabulation through five thematic groups.
The vernissage will take place on 04.10.2025 at 4 pm in the Kulturquartier with musical accompaniment by Klaudia-Friederike Holdefleiß.
