Movie theater Comedy by Erich Kästner
A theater production of the Filmtheater, Cologne
The multimillionaire Tobler organizes a competition. Quite unexpectedly, Mr. Tobler wins 2nd place in his own competition, but under the name Schulze. Mr. Hagedorn, a poor man, wins first place. The prize for both of them is a 10-day stay at the Grandhotel in Bruckbeuren. Mr. Tobler disguises himself as a poor man to see how he is treated as a poor man in the hotel. When the two winners arrive at the hotel, Mr. Schulze, the real millionaire, is put in a small, dark and cold attic room after an unfriendly reception and Mr. Hagedorn, whom the hotel believes to be a multi-millionaire, is given a luxury suite with a balcony overlooking the mountains.
Nobody notices the mix-up and Mr. Schulze, the real millionaire, is determined not to let his plan or his cover be blown.
A few days later, Mr. Schulze's daughter Hilde arrives to look after her father. Hagedorn immediately falls in love with the millionaire's daughter, who of course he didn't know was rich....
A classic of film history on this evening, played in black and white as it used to be.
