DER TEUFEL - Reading with Andreas Maier
Welcometo the world of the good guys and the bad guys! It's the seventies and eighties, the time of the Blue Goat: Uncle J. sits in front of the news and understands nothing in a paradisiacal way, while his beloved mother grows older and older during the seemingly endless first Gulf War. In the midst of all this, Andreas has his first left-wing utopian sex with the smell of incense, and Aunt Lenchen, who unwaveringly believes that the GDR is the better system, comes to visit. And let's not forget Saddam Hussein: just supported in the fight against demonic regimes, now suddenly turned into the devil himself. How do you construct that: good and evil? And what exactly is Yugoslavian minced meat made of?
Andreas Maier's new, abysmal, maliciously witty novel is about how we get lost in the daily battle of opinions, how we are constantly kept from an overview, how we may never be able to get this overview anyway.
Andreas Maier, born in 1967 in Bad Nauheim, Hesse, studied philosophy and German literature, followed by classical philology. He lives in Frankfurt am Main. He has received numerous awards for his work.
