On October 24 at 3 p.m., young inventors will present their work from the workshop "An Ozobot's Fairytale" in the event cellar of Stralsund City Library and cordially invite all interested parties to attend. Over the past twelve months, a dozen children have been working diligently on their visions: they designed backdrops, developed their own plays and, above all, got to grips with the Ozobots. Ozobots are special educational robots that can be programmed very easily with the help of color codes and drawings.
In the project, the little robots now become stage stars and are equipped with self-made costumes, LED props and motion sensors. To stage the robots, the young directors developed stories and built stage sets. The joint project by Medienwerkstatt Identity Films e.V., MakerPort Stralsund and the children's library sets new standards in cultural education by creatively combining robotics, theater and storytelling.
The quality and impact of the project received nationwide attention in November 2023: "An Ozobot's Fairytale" was awarded the prestigious Dieter Baacke Prize by the Society for Media Education and Communication Culture as an exemplary project. The expert jury selected the Stralsund project from around 100 applications and particularly praised the innovative combination of reading, writing, STEM and media skills in an overall artistic experience.
Project manager Stefan Koeck and all the alliance partners involved look back with pride on what has been achieved: "We are delighted that we were able to give children creative access to digital media - in a playful, creative and collaborative way."
The project was funded as part of "Total digital! Reading and storytelling with digital media", an initiative of the German Library Association, as part of "Kultur macht stark. Bündnisse für Bildung" of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
