Aliveness is resistant action in capitalism: personal, political, structural. Being alive fundamentally changes one's own life - This teeming island atlas aims to introduce people of all ages to the diversity of the very special Baltic Sea island of Hiddensee.

The detailed maps provide a new, fresh look at this unique, car-free and natural island. The large-format illustrated map book gently draws attention to the fact that it is not only people who shape and animate the island, but also animals and plants that make the island lively and unique - and in very different ways depending on the season. In this way, everyone can learn a lot about the island - and also sharpen their view of their own everyday life: What do I see teeming with animals and silence, for example?

The literary map shows the many literary activities that the island's secluded existence has to offer. The GDR map of Hiddensee offers a completely different perspective. Based on the time in the 1980s, it illustrates how quickly many things changed on the island as a result of the system transformation.

The final utopia map invites everyone to ask themselves: How do I actually want my life to be? What do I want life to be like on Hiddensee as a small island? In line with the publisher's motto of publishing books that are critical of discrimination and appreciative, the focus here is on precisely these topics.

Who is the book recommended for?

- For people who want to get to know the island of Hiddensee, everything that lives on it and its fascinating history in all its diversity.

- For people who want to experience their beloved vacation and retreat place anew.

- For all those who want to engage in a greater diversity of their own perception in relation to the island, but also beyond that of their own life.

Ulrike Jensen, an illustrator from Berlin, has been concentrating on city plans, maps, river and island maps for several years. She takes great pleasure in telling stories with this type of visualization. The island of Hiddensee is a very special place for her, a place of freedom. Even as a child, she was able to travel to the island and soak up nature, the sea, culture and island life. She has incorporated her personal experiences, memories and encounters here and there into the design of the island maps.
