The Rostock Maritime Museum and Mrs. Inge Bertholdt present selected watercolors by the artist Jochen Bertholdt for sale.
On December 7, 2025 from 11:00 a.m., selected watercolors from the extensive work of artist Jochen Bertholdt will be presented for sale on the traditional ship in IGA Park. The Rostock Maritime Museum and Mrs. Inge Bertholdt, the widow of the renowned graphic artist, cordially invite you to a special tour through a pre-Christmas exhibition on the second Advent.
The exhibition shows works created during Jochen Bertholdt's numerous travels at home and abroad. The watercolors take visitors to landscapes in Australia, the USA and southern Europe and convey the characteristic precision and atmospheric depth for which Bertholdt's works were known.
Jochen Bertholdt had been working as a freelance commercial artist in Rostock since 1968. His work was characterized by scientific and technical graphics, perspective depictions of architecture, machines and means of transport as well as illustrations in the natural sciences. His preferred techniques included drawing, mixed media, watercolor and acrylic.
Bertholdt was awarded the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Design Prize in 1992 and 1996 for his outstanding creative work. His stamp designs have been voted the most beautiful stamp of the year a total of five times. His most important publications include the book "Ships and Shipping of Tomorrow", now in its 8th edition, for which he was responsible for illustration, layout and overall design. Other well-known publications include "Express into the Third Millennium" and "Atlas Weltmeer".
Following the exhibition tour, the watercolors on display can be purchased. Ms. Bertholdt will donate the proceeds to the Rostock Seamen's Mission: "It would be nice and entirely in the spirit of my husband, who died in 2020, if we could help a maritime association with the proceeds. I'm looking forward to the conversations with visitors on December 7."
The tour offers art lovers, museum enthusiasts and all guests of the traditional ship a special opportunity to rediscover Jochen Bertholdt's diverse oeuvre and support a social cause at the same time.
