Afternoon movie Tue I 2.30 p.m. I Stadtkulturhaus
She makes every gourmet's heart beat faster with her sophisticated dishes. It's only in her private life that Kate (Catherine Zeta-Jones) no longer has any palpitations. Even the nice neighbor can't persuade her to go on a date. The super chef feels most at home between pots and pans in a trendy New York restaurant, where she pushes her staff, slams a raw steak on the table for a dissatisfied guest and recommends a hot dog stand.
And all this in a meeting place for the rich and famous, who book a table weeks in advance at great expense. But life can't be booked in advance. The cool ruler of lobster and mutton gets her hormones all mixed up when the new chef Nick (Aaron Eckhart) joins her team.
The sunny boy is not only outrageously good-looking, puts everyone in a good mood while sizzling away to the sounds of Pavarotti and enchants the guests with his creations, but also shakes the female fortress and makes Kate's niece Zoe (dancing mouse Abigail Breslin from "Little Miss Sunshine") laugh.
She has just moved in with her aunt after the tragic death of her mother, who is helpless in the face of the traumatized child. The fact that Zoe also prefers fish sticks to fresh fish fills her with horror.
How good that Nick cheers them both up and tames the unruly Kate. Until the happy ending at the stove, director Scott Hicks serves up the finest cinematic haute cuisine spiced with humor, tenderness and romance. Catherine Zeta-Jones is particularly enchanting as the master chef who, together with Aaron Eckhart, creates the perfect mixture for happiness. Bon appétit!
