Together with the Confucius Institute Stralsund, the Stralsund City Library invites you to a reading with Isabelle Gendre on October 29, who will be reading from her work "Prince Yongxing's Garden".
In "Prince Yongxing's Garden", the author sensitively recounts the decline of the Qing dynasty in the early 19th century. After the death of the great Qianlong Emperor, the period is characterized by corruption, the uprising of the "White Lotus Sect" and the English opium trade. Togto, a fighter with extraordinary intuition, rises to the position of advisor to Emperors Jiaqing and Daoguang. The garden of his friend, Prince Yongxing, reflects the declining world of ancient China.
In her novel, Gendre skillfully combines historical fact with fiction and creates a vivid picture of an era in transition.
