Monuments of special significance: The history of the church and parish of Ankershagen 1266 - 1916
The village chronicler Christa Kostolnik has close ties to Ankershagen. She worked here for many years as a teacher and principal. In recent years, she has worked intensively on the regional history of Ankershagen. Several publications have appeared on this subject. On 12.12.2025 she will read from the 2nd part of her publication on the history of the church and parish of Ankershagen 1266-1916.
Ankershagen church was built during the development and Christianization period after 1240 and is one of the oldest fieldstone churches in Mecklenburg. The altar was consecrated by the Bishop of Havelberg on May 1, 1266. It was the Knights of Holstein who richly endowed the church through repeated donations or endowments for their own and their wives' salvation. After the secularization of the monastery in 1551, the Duchy of Güstrow took over the patronage, whereby the Lutheran church of Ankershagen became and remained a state patronage church. After the Reformation, it was necessary to build a vicarage for the Protestant pastors and their families. The vicarage with its farm buildings was built opposite the church. Although the preservation of the church and vicarage was repeatedly threatened by a lack of money, wars or simply neglect, both have been preserved for over 750 years and are now architectural monuments of particular importance.
