Darß Nature Film Festival 2025
1990 was a great moment for German nature conservation. Five national parks, six biosphere reserves and three nature parks were created on 4.5 percent of the GDR's land area. Many more have been added in Germany over the last 35 years. It took courage and perseverance to achieve this. Three of the committed conservationists look back on their successful work, but also on moments of failure, getting up and carrying on.
We live in a time of complex challenges and global crises. It is important not to despair, not to give up. Stories of success show what it takes: A love of nature and a profound knowledge, collaborative thinking and the necessary tenacity not to be discouraged. Stories of successful nature conservation are written by many people. Today as in the past. Filmmaker Jakob Friedrich has captured some of them in his film.
