Event on the occasion of the Day of Remembrance for the Victims of National Socialism - in Neubrandenburg. Play with discussion
On October 29, 1892, Ottilie Kafka, called Ottla, Franz Kafka's youngest and favorite sister, was born, and she occupied a special place in Franz Kafka's life.
The play 'Ottla - Franz Kafka's Favorite Sister' tells the story of Ottla David's life with her family in Prague and her deportation to Theresienstadt.
On her arrival in the Theresienstadt ghetto, Ottla is assigned to look after the children in the orphanage. The Jewish camp doctor Felix Hershkovitz, who survived Theresienstadt and later told Ottla's daughters about his encounter with her, was also there. Ottla's letters to her two daughters have also been preserved; they allow events to be deduced and in this sense are contemporary testimonies.
The events came to a head. Ottla volunteered to accompany a Kindertransport of Jewish Polish children to Auschwitz. Felix wanted to stop her in order to save her.
For Ottla, the spiritual connection to her brother was omnipresent even during this time. Franz Kafka is present in the play through various quotes.
All three of Franz Kafka's sisters were murdered in the Shoah.
We cordially invite you to take part.
