Michael Schönheit has known Zingst since his student days. He was already a guest in the Zingst parish at a young age.
After studying at the Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy Academy of Music in Leipzig, he succeeded his father as cantor of St. John's Church in Saalfeld.
In 1986, Michael Schönheit was appointed Gewandhaus organist in Leipzig by the then Gewandhaus Kapellmeister Kurt Masur. Since then, he has worked with renowned musicians and conductors such as Herbert Blomstedt and the New York Philharmonic. Michael Schönheit is also honorary cathedral organist at Merseburg Cathedral.
His work unites international concert life and church music in a unique way. You can experience this in a wonderful atmosphere at the summer organ concerts in the church in Zingst.
