At night in the Müritzeum, a rocky offer for the whole family
The stone on the pedestal looks quite inconspicuous in the light of the flashlight. But then it suddenly shines in bright yellow. Can Bastian Bruckhoff, the geology expert at the Müritzeum, work his magic? With the right tools, yes! With the right lamp in his hand, he can use UV light to make the special effects of some of the minerals in the geological collection "shine".
This Night at the Müritzeum event, which is also part of the program accompanying the current special exhibition "Eugen Geinitz - Exploring the Ice Age Landscape in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern", takes visitors on an evening tour of the exhibition with special flashlights.
On closer inspection, stones are not just gray or brown - they can glow and sparkle. It depends on the light and the viewing angle. But why is that? And which stones simply remain gray? Why is it easier to find amber with a UV light? Bastian Bruckhoff will answer these questions on his tour of the House of Collections in the Müritzeum. He will also collect other stones from the geological collection that are otherwise hidden from view. A special look will also be taken at amber, because it can do more than just glow...
