Admittedly: The path taken in 2017 with the state program "Meine Heimat - mein modernes Mecklenburg-Vorpommern" (My homeland - my modern Mecklenburg-Vorpommern) to preserve and maintain the Low German language is still a long way from becoming a freeway. Not everything is just "Sünn un luder Sünnenkringel", as a poem by Martha Müller-Grählert puts it. In a lecture on 2 October 2025 at 7 p.m., Ulrike Stern from the Competence Centre for Low German Didactics at the University of Greifswald (KND) will summarize what has happened in the field of Low German and Low German teaching since 2017 and what current developments and projects there are. These range from international contacts with a focus on Brazil to projects in the field of Low German literature and the language learning app "Platt mit BEO".
Cultural studies graduate Ulrike Stern has been a research assistant at the KND since 2017, having previously worked as a dramaturge for the Fritz Reuter Stage at the Mecklenburg-Schwerin State Theatre. Her area of responsibility at the university is the training and further education of teachers and educators in the field of Low German in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. She is currently working on her dissertation on Fritz Reuter's verse story "Kein Hüsung". She also works as a translator, author and editor of Low German texts. She was awarded the Karl Mahnke Theater Prize for her work in 2015 and the Johannes Gillhoff Literature Prize in 2022.
