Traditional New Year's concert in the Old Synagogue in Hagenow
For the traditional New Year's concert in the Old Synagogue on Sunday, January 11, 2026, Lebendik, three outstanding musicians who have been setting standards in the international klezmer scene for years, will be coming to Hagenow. With their current program, they invite you on a journey of discovery that traces the path of Yiddish song - from its roots in the Jewish communities of Eastern Europe to the vibrant streets of New York's Lower East Side. Combining intimate, traditional folk songs with expressive theater and art songs, they open a window into the soundscape of a vibrant culture that is always changing, yet still retains its soul.
Sasha Lurje's expressive voice takes center stage. The celebrated Latvian singer is currently one of the most important interpreters of Yiddish songs, bringing history to life with her emotional stage presence, stylistic confidence and historical knowledge. Playing alongside her is the American violinist Craig Judelman, a musician with an unmistakably warm tone and a passion for crossing musical borders. His violin builds bridges between Eastern European traditions and American influences - and tells its very own chapter of Yiddish music history. Berlin-based accordionist Sanna Möricke completes the trio. With her nuanced and powerful playing, she provides the harmonic foundation and lends the pieces an unmistakable tonal depth.
As a virtuoso ensemble, they unite past and present, European and American soundscapes - and celebrate the astonishing versatility of Yiddish song, which still touches, moves and connects people today. The concert starts at 19:00.
