Cordial invitation to the City Library, Badenstraße 13 on January 14, 2026, 7 p.m.: Actress Gabriele Völsch reads from "The Story of the Bees" by Maja Lunde
In her debut novel, Norwegian author Maja Lunde masterfully interweaves three narrative strands and three time periods. The focus is on honeybees and their significance for humans: In the year 2098, worker Tao pollinates trees by hand in China, as bees have become extinct. In England in 1852, the biologist William has the idea for a completely new type of beehive. And in 2007, beekeeper George plans to expand his farm in Ohio, but then the bees disappear.
Maja Lunde thus not only reflects poignantly on loss, hope and the future of mankind, but also uses her narrative power to draw a line between family togetherness and responsibility for the next generation.
