In cooperation with the Müritz National Park, we are showing the winners of the German Nature Film Award 2025
Orangutans - The Unknown Great Apes (Director: Jens Westphalen, Thoralf Grospitz) - Best Film in the category "Wild Nature"
Immerse yourself in the world of orangutans! The documentary shows the endangered apes at eye level for the first time. The filmmakers Jens Westphalen and Thoralf Grospitz accompany the female orangutan Sati and her daughter Huyan through the treetops of Borneo. Using modern drone technology, we experience their lives up close: from the intimate mother-child bond to the sensational use of tools and the threat to their habitat from palm oil plantations. Unforgettable scenes from the jungle and the Sepilok orphanage make it clear why protecting the rainforests is crucial - for the orangutans and the future of our planet.
Together with the Müritz National Park, the Müritzeum invites you to a special nature film series. On four evenings between November 2025 and January 2026, the award-winning films from the renowned Darß Nature Film Festival 2025 will be shown in the Müritzeum cinema. Ulf Zimmermann, Head of the Müritz National Park Authority, will welcome guests to the opening event on November 7.
The films offer fascinating insights into local nature and diverse habitats around the world and deal with current nature conservation issues. The film series aims to create a sustainable understanding of the global interrelationships of our planet and to encourage a deeper examination of current environmental issues.
With this event, the German Nature Film Foundation and the umbrella organization National Natural Landscapes e. V. are taking the German Nature Film Award 2025 beyond the traditional venue of the Darß to the national parks for the first time.
The film screenings start at 7 pm. Admission is free, donations are requested.
