One of the most popular works of church music can be heard again in Rostock
The Requiem by W. A. Mozart - music for the memorial service for the deceased in the Catholic church - is one of the treasures of church music and part of the repertoire for many ambitious choirs. On Sunday, November 23, 2025, it can be heard in Rostock's Nikolaikirche, starting at 4:30 pm.
The fact that Mozart had to suspect that the work would remain unfinished and become his own requiem mass due to the onset of his illness and various details in the commissioning and transmission of the composition have contributed to a myth surrounding the work, but the music alone justifies its prominence. The version completed by Franz Xaver Süßmayer will be performed. The program is complemented by the motet "Ave verum corpus", also a popular work by Mozart and composed just a few months before the Requiem. This short composition also makes reference to dying with Christian conviction.
This performance features the St. Marien choir, a soloist ensemble of students and graduates of the Rostock University of Music and Theater, the Orchestra for Early Music Vorpommern and KMD Karl-Bernhardin Kropf.
Tickets for the concert (16/18 euros, reduced 12/15 for pupils, students, Warnowpass, severely disabled persons) are available online at mvticket.de, at the press center (OZ building Richard-Wagner-Straße) and at the box office.
