Commemoration of the 216th anniversary of Queen Luise's death
July 19 marks the 216th anniversary of the death of Queen Luise of Prussia. The queen died unexpectedly in 1810 at her father’s summer palace. Luise’s tragic end brought Hohenzieritz a sad kind of fame.
The lecture “Reality and Imagination—Queen Luise in Portraits,” at 3:00 p.m., is the highlight of the program. Castle director Dr. Susanne Bocher and curator Dr. Jörg Meiner will explore the numerous portraits of the monarch and the question of how these depictions continue to shape the queen’s image to this day. The event will be complemented by a wine tasting with the Schloss Rattey Winery from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. To mark the 250th anniversary of Queen Luise’s birth this year, the special edition “Queen Luise” wine—sourced from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania’s only wine-growing region—will be presented.
Admission to the memorial site and participation in the lecture are free on this day.
This event is free of charge.
