1929, Cadaqués: Gala accompanies her husband, the poet Paul Éluard, to Spain.
He needs the seclusion to finally be able to write again - and the two want to find each other again here. Their feelings have grown cold, there are too many grievances between them. Paul also wants to meet a young artist who will soon be exhibiting in Paris. When Gala meets Salvador, who is ten years younger, she is irritated by his awkward appearance. But the more time they spend together, the more he begins to open up to her. With him, Gala feels some lightness returning to her life.
But the budding love between the two does not go unnoticed, and Paul confronts Gala with a decision. With a heavy heart, she returns to Paris with him. When Salvador travels to Paris for his exhibition, the two meet again. And this time Gala takes the plunge, choosing to live alongside Salvador - and she is determined to make sure the whole world sees his art.
