A performative concert evening
A concert evening between contemplation and new beginnings: François Couperin's "Leçons de Ténèbres" take center stage. In his works, Louis XIV's court harpsichordist combined the elegant French music of his time with the more passionate Italian style. His settings of the Lamentations of Jeremiah, composed around 1713, were intended for Holy Week - music full of devotion that is also dramatically expressive.
On this evening, this baroque world of sound meets texts by Edgar Allan Poe and Latin American poems that tell of longing, resilience and hope. Composers Marta Kowalczuk and Kaan Bulak weave all these sources into a new musical narrative that impressively combines darkness and light.
The result is a performative concert evening, staged by director Anja-Christin Winkler - an intense interplay of music, language and movement.
