A lecture on modern piracy by Captain Peter Jungnickel.
Speaker: Captain Peter Jungnickel, Rostock
If you think piracy is a thing of the past, think again. Because even today, in the age of globalization and digitalization, pirates are still sailing the world's oceans.
The reality of modern piracy in this century is no less brutal than it was in the past - despite all the glorification. Modern pirates do not use grappling hooks, hatchets, sabres and gangplanks, but rather state-of-the-art weapons, fast boats, psychological terror, cryogenic loads, cable ties, mock executions and even murder to extort large ransoms. If these criminals are caught, they are suddenly aware of their human rights, which they do not respect in relation to the seafarers they attack.
In his lecture on March 12 at 4 p.m. on the traditional ship, Captain Peter Jungnickel will discuss the most serious cases of piracy today and the reaction of the community of states and shipowners - as always in a vivid way - and shed light on the sometimes unobjective use of the term PIRACY.
