The Hanseatic City of Stralsund's economic development agency is organizing a lecture event with business journalist and author Thomas Schwandt on 3 November 2025 at 7 p.m. in the MAKERPORT at Wasserstraße 68 under the title "Descent or Awakening - Quo vadis Schiffbau MV?". Accompanying the presentation of the illustrated book "Schiffbau MV Momente", he will give a lecture on the topic "Descent or awakening - Quo vadis Schiffbau MV?". The author will then answer questions on the problems, failures and prospects of the shipbuilding industry in MV.
The freelance business journalist and author Thomas Schwandt, who lives in Rövershagen near Rostock, recently published the illustrated book "Schiffbau MV Momente - Bilder einer (fast) verlorenen Ära". In it, he reflects on the eventful development of the shipyard industry in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern over the last two decades. Following the second wave of privatization from 1998, this was marked by changes of ownership, dramatic bankruptcies and unfortunate conditions such as the financial and economic crisis of 2008/09 and the coronavirus pandemic from 2020. The industry entered difficult waters and has been shrinking dramatically to date.
