on "Ernst Moritz Arndt" - Event organized by "GBT e.V."
In July 1819, Ernst Moritz Arndt's house is searched by the Prussian secret police. All his writings were confiscated, Arndt was arrested and stripped of his teaching position. The author's source research shows the importance of Arndt's political journalism during the European War of Liberation from 1812 to 1815. They describe Arndt's contribution to the foundation of a democratic intellectual culture in Germany and classify Arndt's life's work as fundamental for a new, peace-loving, liberal and democratic Germany.
