The wind quintet of the Staatskapelle Berlin invites you on a musical journey from Mozart to Joplin tonight. And ... "In the end there will be jazz...!"
Many years of intensive collaboration and personal friendship characterize the wind quintet of the Staatskapelle Berlin as well as the very vital style of music-making. The homogeneity of sound at the highest level and absolute stylistic confidence in the chamber music interplay of the five colleagues make the concerts at home and abroad an experience time and again, impressing audiences and critics alike.
In the first years after its foundation, the classical and modern wind quintet repertoire dominated the quintet's programs. The rather modest selection of high-quality original literature led to a desire for expansion: musical experimentation and variable instrumentation increasingly came to the fore. Breaking up the classical wind quintet literature and listening to well-known works in a "new way" thus became part of the program. Since then, this has repeatedly been reflected in unusual projects and CD productions. This includes world premieres of commissioned compositions (by Detlev Glanert and Frank Raschke, among others) as well as the first performance of numerous arrangements and, not least, increasingly stylistic "excursions" into the border areas of classical music. The musicians perform their programs at international festivals such as the Lockenhaus Chamber Music Festival as well as on tours to countries such as the USA, where they have also given chamber music courses and performed together with young artists.
