The KinderUni lectures are aimed at children between the ages of 8 and 12.
How can it be that 1+1 suddenly equals 10? Sounds strange, doesn't it? But that's exactly how a computer works! In this lecture, you will be taken on a journey through the history of computers. It will explain why computers calculate in a special language, the binary system, which only consists of the numbers 0 and 1. It also takes a brief look at the logic behind these calculations. And how clever minds like Gottlob Frege helped to lay the foundations for it. You will learn how the complex computers of today were created from simple numbers.
Lecturer: Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jörn Weichert - Wismar University of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering
Prof. Weichert was born in 1973 and after graduating from the "Spezialschule mathematisch-naturwissenschaftlich-technischer Richtung" in Riesa, he studied civil engineering at the BTU Cottbus from 1991 to 1996. He also worked there as a research assistant at the Chair of Statics and Dynamics from 1998 to 2004. While working as an engineer for static calculations in steel construction and mechanical engineering at the civil engineering office of Dr. Gerhard Lener in Feldkirch (Austria) from 2004 to 2017, he completed his doctorate in 2006 on the topic of "A computer-oriented algorithm for the yield line calculation of plates". Since 2017, Prof. Jörn Weichert has been working at Wismar University of Applied Sciences at the Faculty of Engineering in the field of Civil Engineering. His area of appointment is mathematics and construction informatics.
