Vietnamese life in Germany between integration and recognition
Germany is a country of immigration. However, even two decades after the Immigration Act of 2005, many social and political actors still find it difficult to recognize and actively shape this self-image. Migration is often reduced to flight or even presented as a threat, although it has long been - and must be - an integral part of our society. Against the backdrop of demographic change and the shortage of skilled workers, it is clear that immigration is not a marginal issue, but a central key to the future viability of our country. Many immigrants are already making an important contribution in numerous areas of life - but their stories, experiences and perspectives are rarely heard.
With our symposium, we would like to create space to focus on the potential of migration and open up new perspectives on social cohesion. We cordially invite you to join us in a discussion about successful integration, social participation and the contribution of people with a history of migration. A particular focus will be on immigrants from Vietnam and their descendants, who often go unnoticed but make a decisive contribution to economic and social life - and yet are often not perceived as a natural part of our society.
