The use of wood as an energy source is increasingly caught in a field of tension: as a renewable resource, wood can make a contribution to the energy transition; at the same time, its effects on the climate, carbon footprint and land use are controversial.
How sustainable is wood as an energy source? What new assessments are there of the carbon footprint of wood energy? What characterizes a sustainable use of wood and how can this be secured in the long term?
