The Berlin harpsichordist Reinhard Glende plays on his large historical concert harpsichord.
The harpsichord is the forerunner of the modern piano. Composers who wrote works for keyboard instruments before the invention of the piano were therefore only familiar with the sound of the harpsichord. The strings are not struck with small hammers, as on a grand piano, but are plucked - just as the fingers do when playing the guitar. As on the first Friday of every month, a concert takes place in Neuwied's Marktkirche. The Friday concert on August 12 will feature works for keyboard instruments from the time before the invention of the piano - played on a harpsichord.
At the beginning of the 18th century, the Hanseatic city of Hamburg enjoyed a rich musical life. Among the baroque masters who shaped musical life were Georg Friedrich Händel, Georg Philipp Telemann, Heinrich Scheidemann and Johann Adam Reincken. Reinhard Glende, a master on the harpsichord, presents the most important Hamburg composers on his summer tour through northern Germany.
