Immerse yourself in the eventful life of Frédéric Chopin, one of the greatest composers of the 19th century, whose biography exemplifies the challenges, opportunities and tensions of dual citizenship.
The seminar examines Chopin's identity as a Pole and a Frenchman in the context of the political upheavals of his time and asks how belonging, citizenship and cultural influences affect the life and work of an artist.The focus is not only on Chopin's musical achievements, but also on the legal and social aspects of his dual citizenship. The seminar is complemented by musical contributions and the analysis of selected works in which Chopin's Polish and French roots become audible.
