Ida Masius. An extraordinary woman of the 19th century.
"Ida Masius. An extraordinary woman of the 19th century."
Lecture on a remarkable personality in Schwerin's history
At the Forum.STADT.Geschichte, Christine Rehberg-Credé and Brigitte Terner will be focusing on a woman who could have celebrated her 200th birthday last year, Ida Masius, on 26 November at 7 p.m. in the Kulturforum Schleswig-Holstein-Haus.
Although a street in a residential area of Schwerin commemorates her today, little is actually known about her. Some people may associate her name with the Augustenstift or the Anna Hospital for Children. She played a key role in the founding of both institutions.
This lecture evening will take a closer look at Ida Masius' commitment to these "charitable institutions" - as they were known at the time - and her influence on their development. However, the radius of action of this "extraordinary" woman was much wider. There were several other social projects and institutions in Schwerin in which Ida Masius was involved. They may hardly be known today, but back then they were important mosaic stones in the city's social system, which Ida Masius helped to shape.
The lecture on her life and work will be accompanied by a reading from letters and historical documents by and about Ida Masius.
Admission is 2.00 euros, members of the association are admitted free of charge.
