Darßer NaturfilmFestival 2025: Program section "Lookout"
Southern Galicia is one of the areas in Europe most threatened by forest fires. Wild horses have lived in the mountains here for centuries. They play a crucial role in fire prevention as they keep the undergrowth low. But their numbers are dwindling. In a haunting and visually stunning way, the film takes viewers into the hottest summer since weather records began, with forest fires raging for days on end, unable to be extinguished. Firefighter San is involved in fire analysis - a job that takes him to the front lines of the action. The warm-hearted vet Eva works with wild and tame horses. And ten-year-old Pedro is already a budding cowboy. The film also takes the perspective of the animals, who always return the human gaze. A film about the fragile balance in nature and the relationship between humans and animals.
